Round 2 of the Supa Pro League served up another cracking night of pool action with some big results, tight finishes, and a few shake-ups on the leaderboard. With just five matches left this season, the race for the top spots is starting to heat up!
7:30pm Nsovo Mathonsi 7 — 7 Aron Donohue
A cagey, high-quality opener as both men gave as good as they got. Nsovo and Aron traded blows all night and neither could find the decisive edge, finishing locked at 7 apiece. That draw gives both some decent points and a psychological win for Aron, who showed he can stay with the front-runners. After a night like that, both guys keep themselves very much in the hunt as neither really lost ground, and Aron will feel he’s picked up momentum.
Leaderboard Effect: momentum is positive for Aron; Nsovo remains solid but missed a chance to separate himself.
8:30pm Llewellyn Sedgwick 4 — 4 Quinton Naidoo
Llewellyn who came out all guns blazing last week was made to work for it in week 2.. Quinton struggles contiue somewhat but earned a hard-fought share of the spoils. For Llewellyn this is a grind-it-out result: he keeps his unbeaten run intact in terms of avoiding defeat and keeps the top-spot pressure on. Quinton will be buzzing, that draw against the table leader is a confidence booster and some tidy points on the board.
Leaderboard Effect: Llewellyn holds firm at the head (no slip), Quinton picks up valuable ground and will still want to climb from the foot of the table.
9:30pm Shane Pillay 6 — 9 Nico Erasmus
Big night for Nico as he produced the one result everyone will talk about, taking out Shane 9–6. Nico’s breaks and finishing were sharper, and he punished a few risky moments from Shane. That’s a statement win: Nico should move up the order now that he’s gained real momentum heading into the middle of the season. Shane will be disappointed to drop frames like that, but he’s still near the top and will need a strong response next week.
Leaderboard Effect: Nico climbs the standings and gains confidence; Shane loses a bit of ground and must regroup.
10:30pm — Lucas Venter 4 — 5 Ketan Nydoo
Lucas is handed his first loss in 2 season’s by an ever-determined Ketan in the tight late-night battle which was decided by the smallest of margins. Ketan edged Lucas 5–4 in a clean, clinical match. Both played well, but Ketan stole the crucial frame when it mattered. That narrow victory will lift Ketan up the table and put Lucas back on the mend after a close loss.
Leaderboard Effect: Ketan moves up (good three points from a direct rival); Lucas slips a spot or two and will be looking to bounce back.
